Frequent and regular whole herd testing is the optimum method of controlling Johne's in your herd

Phase III of the National Johne’s Management Plan was launched on 31 March 2025, continuing efforts to control Johne’s disease in dairy herds across the UK.

Dairy farmers will be required to determine their herd’s average test value (ATV) as a measure of disease prevalence. The target for the national ATV is set at 5.5 by 2030 and achieving this will be key to further reducing the disease’s impact.

Whole herd testing is likely to be the appropriate option for most herds to manage Johne’s, with a minimum of a random 60 cow screen needed to generate an ATV.
